Ralf Rangnick Hails Man Utd ‘spirit’ in Leeds United Win

Ralf Rangnick has praised Manchester United’s ‘maturity and unity’ following their crucial 4-2 win over Leeds United.

Goals from Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, and Anthony Elanga were enough for the Red Devils to secure victory and move four points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a top-four finish.

Speaking after the game, Rangnick lauded the entertainment value of the fixture, the atmosphere inside the stadium, and his players.

“[It was] my first as a manager but I was here back in 1993 with VfB Stuttgart. That was the former European Cup, the now Champions League, Stuttgart against Leeds, and the atmosphere I can remember was similar to today,” he said.

“It was a great game to watch, not for the two managers, but for us highly important, and after conceding those two goals, we showed a fantastic reaction, we showed maturity and unity on the pitch and that’s why I’m proud of that the boys did today.”

Rangnick’s comments on the squad’s ‘unity’ come in the wake of reports stating that all was not well in the dressing room. Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire were quick to dispel these rumors, and their manager’s post-match comments go some way in doing that too.

The interim coach also took the time to discuss the objects that were thrown at Man Utd players – one of which hit Anthony Elanga – during the game.

“As far as I know there is an investigation going on from Leeds United [about potential objects being thrown]. I don’t think anything happened in the end. Anthony Elanga looked well but he was happy about scoring his goal,” he explained.

“Obviously things like that should not happen and I think even more so in this game, the atmosphere was great at times we had to cool down but this is what I tried to do when I walked onto the pitch.

“I didn’t want anything to happen with regards to yellow or red cards. In moments like this, I think it’s important to try and keep cool.”
