Ralf Rangnick Speaks on Man United Captaincy

Some light has been shed on the situation.

Ralf Rangnick has spoken on the ongoing captaincy issue at Manchester United, amid reports suggesting Harry Maguire could be stripped of the armband.

Maguire is the current captain of Man United, but reports have emerged throughout the week suggesting Rangnick is considering stripping the England international.

A specific report was published on Thursday that said Cristiano Ronaldo and Maguire had become “embroiled” in an ongoing power struggle, and that the Portuguese striker wanted to take the armband.

Maguire tweeted in response to this story to say that it is untrue, something which Rangnick has doubled down on his latest press conference.

“I must say that this is absolute nonsense. I have never spoken with any player about a possible chance of captaincy.

“Harry knows that and so does Cristiano. All the other players too. It has never been an issue for me, and it’s me who decides who is the captain. So there is no reason for me to speak about that with any other person.

“Harry is our captain and he will stay our captain until the end of the season, and there is nothing else to add on to that.”

He continued: “I am not frustrated at all because I know that it’s not the truth. I told you that it’s not an issue at all and it has never been an issue.

“My full focus is on preparing the team for the next training and the next match. I can only tell you that in the past 11 or 12 weeks.

“From what I can tell you, the atmosphere in the locker room is better than it used to be.”

Rangnick puts the improved morale at Man United down to the fact a number of players got the move away from what they wanted.

His side will travel to Leeds for a game kicking off at 2 pm on Sunday.
